Mechanical engineers work for the most part in an office setting, but may sometimes be required to travel to an on-site location to troubleshoot issues or otherwise be available as needed.
A bachelor’s degree is needed to become a mechanical engineer. A graduate degree can lead to management roles. Mechanical engineers must usually be licensed as professional engineers (PE) which requires a four year degree, four years of work experience and passing a state exam.
